Dealing With Picky Eaters [ + Nuby Product Review ]

Hi Friends! Happy New Year -- I hope your holiday season was filled with a lot of joy. Now that we've entered 2019, it's back to routines and tackling some resolutions. Since Felix and Marcus are still young and can't vocalize new year resolution, I've decided to make some for them some of which include cleaning up toys after play time, more educational play and being better at eating.

I mean, if we could tackle just one of those it would be better eating. If you don't already know, my Felix is suuuuuuuch a picky eater and that means that I have to go above and beyond when it comes to making sure he's getting all the nutrients he needs. He has lower iron levels due to his pickiness, so I really am trying to make eating more fun and I've turned to Nuby for help with that.

Here are some of Nuby's products that have assisted in my never ending battle to make meal time more enjoyable and appetizing for my picky little eater.

No. One ::   Sure Grip Miracle Mat Suction Plate

This plate is nice because it sticks to his Ikea highchair and makes flinging his plate across the room more difficult. Felix is using the Red Monkey plate in the picture, but we also have this exact plate in a koala version too (also pictured above) -- because options. You can never have to many of those, am I right?

I let him choose the plate animal / color before I set the table because I want Felix to feel like he has a say. Whenever he has choices, he's more likely to cooperate when it comes to giving the food a try.

I also really love this plate because it makes separating his food so much easier. If he sees that his food is touching, Felix has an instant melt down. He just likes to have everything in its place and who can argue with that?!

No. Two :: Stainless Steel Eating Set

This was the set that Felix responded to when it came to starting using utensils. My picky eater never responded to being fed well. He'd scream and turn away, but as soon as he got his tiny little fingers on this set and I let him do it by himself, it was instant fun.

I've come to the realization that some kids just want to be independent earlier than others and that's okay. Even though Felix is picky, he's more willing to try things if I pretend that I am not watching or care in the slightest bit. I guess it's too much pressure having mom and dad stare you down as you're trying to eat a meal, so at least I can be assured he has the tools (like this cute little utensil set) as he wings it by himself.

No. Three :: Sure Grip Suction Bowl

Another suction product because I wasn't kidding about needing things to stick to that high chair. I place soup broth in this bowl, but more than anything else, this is a snack bowl. He loves those pretzels found in Chex Mix and this is the perfect container size to serve those to him because it's made for tiny portions.

When I do serve him soup in this, I love that the bowl isn't sliding all over the high chair tray. I feel like toddlers have no perception about surroundings and my toddler is no different -- somehow he's always elbowing his bowls and cups, so this suction bowl is and awesome tool.

What I've Learned About Mothering A Picky Eater

With these tools in the kitchen, I feel more equipped when it comes to getting my picky toddler to eat.   I've found that having the right tools makes me less jumpy and eases my OCD levels when it comes to having him making a mess.

I tend to be super uptight in the feeding process, so if I've learned anything, it's that it's okay to relax. I am okay with Mac and Cheese ending up on the floor and with the fact that two bites is better than no bites. There are days when Felix will try everything I give him and others when he won't even take a bite of his favorite meals and that is okay. I've come to terms with the fact that I am going to win some battles and lose even more battles, but the main thing to remember is to not give up.

I've lucked out that Marcus is not so picky when it comes to eating, but even if he was, I would still be hopeful. I keep thinking that one day Felix will wake up and LOVE the food I give him and the pickiness will some day cease, but until that day, I'll be over here using my Nuby products to help ease the process.

Review | Contours Options Elite Double Stroller

I went on vacation with two under two and I can honestly say that one of the things that made this trip  memorable was having the Contours Options Elite Double Stroller -- it's a total game changer.

I love that it's extremely light to carry. We went to Disney with this stroller and we had no issues lifting it up onto and off the tram. I saw a lot of families needing their stroller to be lifted by at least three adults, but with the Contours Options Elite stroller, my husband lifted it all by himself without having to fold it.

If it needs to be folded, this stroller does an excellent job by still leaving room in your trunk for other things! We opted to travel to Disney in a van with SIX kids and made it into a road trip and I was a bit worried about there not being a enough space in the back of our van with all our luggage and supplies,  but this double stroller folded up so nicely and still left us a TON of room for other things.

It's trendy and stylish too, but my ALL TIME FAVORITE thing about this stroller is how comfy my boys seemed to be -- especially my 22 month old. Whenever he saw that I was about to place him in, he happily complied which hasn't always been the case.

Even though we were in a super busy and loud place, the Contours Option Elite Stroller gave both my boys enough comfort to take super long naps (2+ hours!) which made me one happy mama.

Review :: Ditty Bird Books

Books -- they're super crucial to a child's development. We hear it everywhere from our pediatricians to every savvy parenting magazine. Naturally, as a parent, I want to implement books into my son's daily schedule. It's kind of a hassle because he's only 14 months and sometimes he doesn't want to sit on my lap while I read a book to him. #thestruggleisreal, am I right mommas? When your toddler decides to get up and walk away from the very best O McDonald impression you've got.

Cue Ditty Bird Books! These cute little board books play music for your babe. I have two books with Ditty Bird and they're always Felix's number one picks when it comes to reading time. He loves to sit by himself and listen to the songs being played.

Ditty Bird is on every page and so are the words to every song being played, so you can make it a fun interactive play session as well as expose your little one to educational content. It's a win for mom and a win for baby!

Review | Joovy Tricycoo 4.0

If the look on Felix's face doesn't say it all, then please, let me spell it out for everyone....
THIS PRODUCT IS AUH - MAZING!

OK. Now that I've gotten that off my chest let me explain -- the Joovy Tricycoo is probably my favorite product that Felix has received because it's something that he'll be using for the next few years, which makes me one happy mama. I don't know about you, but every time I have to pack away something because my little man out grows it, I die a little inside, for several reasons.

I mean besides the obvious reason of needing to find more space around the house for all the stuff we no longer need, the fact that my baby is growing up makes packing all his "baby things" all the more bittersweet. I know, it's dramatic. but the mom feels on this are so stroooooong.

So while my mama heart is in denial about the fact that my baby is becoming a toddler, here comes  Joovy creating a product that can grow with your child. It's genius!

Felix loves taking walks in his tricycoo -- it's probably his favorite thing these days. When he sees me pull it out, he lets out an excited gasp. It really has taken the outdoor walk experience to another level. My little guy has always loved taking walks but when he's in the tricyoo, he's giggling and squealing from all the fun he's having.

As for the features of this little stroller / bike -- I really love that it has mama steering while the bike handles give him the impression that he is in control. I also really appreciate that there is a baby foot pedal that don't move, so his feet have somewhere to go until he's long enough to use the real pedals. The snack and bottle feature is also really helpful when we're taking longer walks. All in all it's a really great product.
